Anna Gilbert
Anna Gilbert is the editor and publisher of Home & Hill Magazine, a print quarterly which features past and present representations of a life well lived in Tennessee. Bound with in depth profiles of makers and doers, features of home life, and cultural and travel narratives, this publication fosters and attends to curiosity and craftsmanship.
In 2011, she emerged from grad school and decided that it was high time that she became a writer. She’d been waiting to be one since 1984. Back then on a cold day—convinced that she was to become one—she left a little something for posterity, a tribute gift from the next Daphne du Maurier that she'd become. Armed with a shovel and some scant memorabilia—namely her poetry notebook and a red, bird-shaped bottle of perfume—she trudged outside her Tennessee home to dig and to bury a remnant of her authorial journey. Someday, she mused, some multi-talented scholar/archaeologist would shriek “Eureka.”
While not quite certain that day will come, she's not letting that stop her. Home & Hill is a product of this early desire, the desire for a platform on which to write. It’s a product of a new desire as well, the desire to unearth, not bury, in the land of Tennessee.
At the forefront of her thoughts are her fellow writers who want to sing the song of Tennessee, who want to inspect and explore, get their hands dirty, and listen to stories of the hard work and perseverance of their statesmen. Now, it’s not just her story, but theirs; not in her hands, but yours.
